Maurice Donald Hobson, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 22, 2025. Maurice was born January 14, 1949 and lived most of his life in Lebanon. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1968 and attended St. Joseph School for grade school.
He married Joy Lynn Maffit in 1969 and they moved to Wisconsin to work on a dairy farm; they divorced in 1984. When they moved back to Lebanon, Maurice worked for Na-Churs Liquid Fertilizer before joining the Lebanon Police Department in 1982. On his days off he poured concrete and many of his jobs still look good today. Maurice had a long and full career with the Lebanon Police Department working his way to Detective Captain. He earned many awards such as police man of the year, Witham Hospital Community Angel Award just to name a few. Maurice was also one of the first members of the Boone County SRT. Maurice loved his job and dedicated his life to the community of Lebanon.
Maurice retired from the Lebanon Police Department and joined the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office as detective until he decided to retire, again, and enjoy the outdoors. Maurice enjoyed deer hunting and fishing any chance he got. He loved the outdoors and all that came with it.
Maurice leaves behind two daughters, Kimberly Lynn (Jeff) Moore and Christy Lynn (Matt) Meek; three grandchildren, Isabelle Nichole Moore, Issac Moore and Ella Meek; sister, Deborah Dale (Shawn) Shepler; brother, Kenneth (Donna) Hobson; four nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice D. and Donna Darlene Hobson.
Family and friends will gather Friday, August 29 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Strawmyer and Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
